A little ironic they got left out, because if anyone had more cause to resent Edward, creator of the British, it was probably the Welsh aristocracy! BRAVEHEART is a fantastic story, with romance, dramatic times, epic and harsh battles. In my opinion, it's no wonder why it has gained so much awards. Good film, great scene but not a true reflection of what happened at falkirk. The Scots never moved from their schiltrons and the Scottish cavalry did not number 1000 as a matter of fact and they were driven off by the much larger English contingent which impetuously charged the Scottish formations before Edward arrived to pull them back. The Scottish nobles complicity in the alleged betrayal is unknown because the most widely accepted story is that English scouts spotted Wallace in callendar wood and reported it to Edward who was camped at linlithgow just a few miles away. The film symbolically shows this with the nobles physically deserting him but this never happened. The Welsh longbow was pivotal to the victory though. The force that Edward had gathered would have likely won the day in any case. They outnumbered the Scots at least 3:1.
